Last year’s Christmas peak began with a 28 per cent increase in sales between September and October, according to MetaPack which has tracked despatched orders of 100 of its customers over the past year.
Using its eCommerce 100 Tracker, it found a further 42 per cent rise between October and November, and 29 per cent between November and December. The overall increase in sales from September to December was 133 per cent.
Patrick Wall, the chief executive officer of Metapack said: “Despite cut-off dates for pre Christmas delivery being passed, people were still shopping on line right up to Christmas day and online retailers were still despatching their goods on Christmas Eve.”
“This is indicative of the 24/7 online mentality that shoppers now have and are expecting from their etailers.”
Clients taking Metapoack’s services often form a pre-Christmas-rush-rush. In the past two months twenty retailers have gone live with MetaPack including Debenhams, Past Times, Figleaves, Fit Flops, Rare Fashions and Oki Ni. It says setup can take as little as two weeks.
