The Office of Fair Trading is conducting an inquiry into alleged price fixing by commercial vehicle manufacturers.
The OFT said it was: “Investigating suspected cartel activity involving commercial vehicle manufacturers.”
It also confirmed that the UK offices of Mercedes-Benz trucks have been visited. A person had been arrested in connection with the investigation and released on bail.
British subsidiaries of Volvo, Renault and Scania have confirmed that they had received letters from the OFT as part of the investigation and said they would co-operate fully with the investigation.
The inquiry is at an early stage, and the OFT said it would not be in a position to conclude whether it considered the law had been infringed until it completed its investigations and assessed the available evidence.
Investigations are being carried out under both the Enterprise Act 2002 and the Competition Act 1998.
