Kuehne + Nagel has started building a 28,000 sq m distribution centre in Duisburg’s harbour area in Germany.
Operations are due to begin at the facility in May 2011, when it will service a contract with a customer from the consumer healthcare industry.
The construction is taking place on 65,000 sq m of land recently purchased by Kuehne + Nagel, that borders its existing premises. It includes an additional 14,000 sq m for future development.
Hans George Brinkmann, managing director of Kuehne + Nagel and regional manager central Europe, said: “Duisburg has proven itself as a central European logistics hub. Including the new facility we will have 150,000 square metres warehousing space under management.”
