Yodel has acquired the freehold to a distribution centre at Wednesbury in the West Midlands.
The centre is scheduled to open in the summer of 2011. Yodel says it will have state of the art systems, with machinery “to optimise benefits from improved parcel handling processes to linehaul optimisation”.
Yodel operates eight national hubs,120 service centres and has a fleet of 5,000 vans. The new site in association with Yodel’s other sort centres is expected to support network capacity for the coming years.
Chief executive Jonathan Smith said: “We are very excited about this development as it strengthens our current ambition to become a £1bn business. We must continue to invest to achieve this aim and will only achieve this by providing unrivalled choice and great customer service.
“This type of initiative will help us deliver our strategy. The Wednesbury site will reinforce the breadth and depth of service offering to our clients and their customers for many years to come.”
