Office Depot has awarded Leicester-based Widdowson two overnight trunking contracts worth £350,000. Widdowson is transporting Office supplies from Office Depot’s Midlands DC to its Crawley depot and, on the second route, delivering products from Northampton to Leicester and Willenhall.
Freddie Watts, fleet and transport contracts manager for Office Depot in the UK, said: “Widdowson approached us as our Leicester DC is close to the Widdowson site. I gave them a full schedule of what we do and asked them to quote. They were very competitive on both of these routes, so when we had carried out background checks on the company, we awarded them the trunking contract to Crawley.
“We operate a time sensitive 24 hour operation and therefore it is essential that we can rely on Widdowsons to make the deliveries at certain times during the night. The products are all required for onward next day distribution by our Office Depot vans. Once we were comfortable working with them on the Crawley route we moved the Northampton to Leicester and Willenhall business across to them too.”
