Damco is targeting the retail market with an end-to-end logistics solution designed to help retailer’s source products directly overseas which it reckons can save up to 20 per cent of the cost.
It is offering a trial of its “Damco Retail Direct” service “with a small number of vendors, where we can agree to deliver goods at the same cost as with your existing solution”.
Richard Morgan, chief commercial officer at Damco in the UK said: “Damco will then pass on any additional savings directly to you.”
Damco, the logistics arm of AP Moller – Maersk Group, has a strong presence in emerging markets, including lower cost locations like inland China, India and Bangladesh as well as more than 30 countries in Africa.
“Damco has a simplified way of helping the customer select the optimal transport mix based on days, cost and carbon rather than merely on mode of transport,” said Morgan.
