Sika, which produces speciality chemicals for construction and industry, has chosen DHL Supply Chain to handle warehouse and inventory management at its UK distribution centre.
Keith Gilbert, operations manager at Sika, said: “DHL will provide us with the functional expertise to facilitate management of a high volume of picks, on exceptionally short lead times, being delivered through a variety of transport mediums.
“We require a variety of specialist freight services due to the diverse Sika product portfolio, and differing requirements of our customers. DHL’s added value solution sets will help us streamline our supply chain, and its flexibility, capabilities and proven expertise in inventory management convinced us they were the right partners for this project.”
Under the three year contract DHL will handle 50,000 orders per annum, based on 95,000 inbound and outbound pallets.
DHL will consolidate four warehouses into a single centre to provide storage at Dunstable, an optimal location, close to the Sika manufacturing facility. A management team operating from the warehouse will act as a single point of contact for Sika, helping to centralise planning and manage transport suppliers more flexibly.
