TNT Post has reached an agreement in principle on some 11,000 redundancies with the Dutch trade unions Abvakabo FNV, CNV Publieke Zaak, and BVPP.
As a result of the volume decline in mail, TNT Post plans to make drastic changes in its organisation in the coming years. This will result in the loss of 11,000 jobs among operations employees.
It reckons that, allowing for natural attrition and voluntary departures, 4,500 compulsory redundancies are expected to be necessary.
Under the deal, this number will now be reduced by retaining 1,700 jobs through the “Auto Unit”, at TNT Post’s Parcel Service and elsewhere in the company.
TNT Post has also promised to study possible ways of keeping an additional 200 jobs at the “Auto Unit” during future organisational changes. The company will be offering 300 employees temporary employment up to the end of 2013.
