The FTA has gained assurances from Transport Scotland, Central Scotland Police and Scottish Government, that they have plans to keeping traffic flowing in Scotland in the event of more extreme weather.
Transport Scotland has put grit supplies on standby at known problem areas, and says it will make heavy recovery vehicles to assist HGVs available without cost. It says it will use a multi-agency approach to speed up co-ordination and deployment of resources.
However, the Scottish Government maintained that if directed by the police, HGVs should pull over to the hard shoulder to allow gritting and ploughing operations to be undertaken.
* Courier CitySprint is working with retailers and 3PLs to clear the backlog of deliveries caused by the adverse weather. It estimates that last weekend it delivered urgent Christmas stock to over 300 stores from one 3PL supplier and also helped with a consignment of more than 1300 packages for a high street chain.
