Wolseley UK, the trade distributor of plumbing and heating products and construction materials, has streamlined its delivery network and cut costs through the deployment of DPS International’s routeing and scheduling software.
The company needed a strategic system to enable network and distribution modelling and auditing of the current operations across the business, and after evaluating a number of systems chose the LogiX PC Suite.
It was initially implemented to model primary transport routes to the company’s Marston Gate Distribution Centre, but the company now also uses it for live, daily operational planning scenarios for two other Wolseley companies, Bathstore and William Wilson.
As a result, Wolseley has made significant financial savings and boosted efficiency.
A spokesperson for Wolseley said: “The LogiX Suite has contributed greatly towards the achievement of our strategic and operational requirements.”
The company highlights that it is a cost effective planning system that has enabled it to reduce distribution costs through better planning.
“Since we implemented the system, we have had a double figure improvement in distribution costs and actually carry out more deliveries with a reduced fleet across the network,” said the company.
This was achieved through a rationalisation of deliveries across the network, an improvement on weekly and daily on-time deliveries, optimisation of delivery cost and a reduction in administrative overheads.
