Mercedes Benz parent Daimler Trucks turned a 1bn euro loss in 2009 into a 1.3bn euro profit (EBIT) last year. Unit sales by 37 per cent to 355,300 vehicles and revenue increased by 31 per cent to 24bn euros.
The group said the improvement was primarily due to the good development of unit sales with contributions from all major markets (Europe, United States, Latin America and Japan).
Earnings were boosted in 2010 also by cost-reducing actions, in particular from the repositioning of Daimler Trucks North America and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation.
Mercedes-Benz Vans sold 224,200 vehicles – up from 165,600 the year before. Revenue of 7.8bn euros was up from 6.2bn euros in 2009. EBIT rose from 26m euros to 451m euros.
