Ford Motor has awarded Transmec UK a contract to provide the logistics for tests of a prototype Ford Transit in the UK and Turkey.
This is the first time Ford has outsourced a prototype build project outside the USA.
Ford anticipates a build programme of 260 vehicles during the prototype phase, and Transmec will deliver all the parts for both programmes apart from engines and body shells.
Starting this month Transmec will stock, pick and deliver parts for the prototype Ford from its West Thurrock facility to both Ford’s Dunton technical centre near Basildon and the Ford production plant in Kocaeli, Turkey.
