Innerglass, the national glassware, catering disposables and barware distributor, chose Warehouse Systems to complete a full strip out and rebuild at its new 60,000 sq ft warehouse in Peterlee in a six week window.
The WSL team removed the existing system, including some 50,000 sq ft of mezzanine floors, garment hanging racking on both ground and mezzanine levels and four clad staircases.
The rebuild involved designing and implementing a complete storage system. Innerglass has a relatively low volume of stock rotation and the majority of the workload is low-level picking from boxes.
WSL recommended an articulated forklift truck to maximise overall pallet capacity and incorporated decking to lower levels for boxed items, which improved picking efficiency.
The system incorporates more than 4,000 pallets weighing no more than 1,000kg. Each run of pallet racking within the system includes tubular racking barriers to protect against the impact of the forklift truck at the ends and the cross aisle location.
The £130,000 project was completed in six weeks. David Fishburn, operations manager for Innerglass, said: “The racking system solution recommended is exactly what is required to support our increase in business.”
