Lafarge Cement has been given a £130,000 freight grant to move traffic from road to rail.
The Scottish government grant will be used to improve facilities at four sites, enabling Lafarge to distribute bagged cement from Dunbar to Uddingston, Inverness and Aberdeen by rail rather than road.
The money is dependent on a four year long commitment by Lafarge to move cement by rail and will generate environmental benefits totalling £0.73 million across this period. It is anticipated the shift to train transport will start this summer.
