Online retailer and TV shopping channel Pitch World has signed a deal with RCS Logistics to provide e-fulfilment services, including bonded warehousing, customer order picking, packing and dispatch, as well as online order tracking and customer returns.
David Bredow, founder and operations director at Pitch World, said: “With e-commerce and TV shopping, you typically get just one chance with the customer. If you get it right, the customer may return and buy more from you. However, if you get it wrong, you may never get another chance. That’s why logistics and e-fulfillment are so critical to what we do here.”
RCS Logistics has been working with Pitch World since 2009 and now employs a dedicated Pitch World representative at its Corby site in the East Midlands.
Bredow added: “We’re a lean business with 11 employees as we tend to outsource most of our operations…While many 3PL providers are good at providing traditional logistics and warehousing, many are not so good when it comes to e-commerce and e-fulfillment.”
The company decided not to work with a major 3PL because as a business “we felt that we would have to adapt to suit their regimes and systems,” said Bredow. “We therefore decided to look for a small to medium sized 3PL who would be willing to adapt to our systems and practices.”
When Pitch World receives an order from the customer, via telephone, website or TV, the information is relayed to RCS via the integrated SAP software.
RCS picks an average of 500 customer orders for Pitch World each day. Once RCS has received and logged a customer’s order details, dispatch labels are generated and printed for inclusion with the order.
A pick list of orders is created for the RCS warehouse each day, where Pitch World products are stored. The products are then picked by warehouse operatives and packed for delivery to the customer.
RCS also generates an invoice for the customer, which is dispatched along with the order. Typically, orders are dispatched on a next-day or two-day delivery, to customers in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.
