DAF is buying a 19 per cent stake in Czech truck maker Tatra. It will supply Tatra with engines and cabs as well as selling Tatra’s range of off-road vehicles throughout Europe.
Harrie Schippers, DAF president, said: “DAF’s minority ownership in Tatra further strengthens DAF’s industry-leading position in the heavy truck segment in Central Europe.”
Tatra was founded in 1850. It specialises in off-rod vehicles and has developed a chassis design using a central load-carrying tube and axles with independently suspended swinging half-axles bolted together into a single unit.
Tatra chief Ronald Adams said: “With these agreements, the new line of Tatra off-road vehicles will combine the quality, reliability and technological leadership of the PACCAR MX 12.9 litre engine and DAF CF cab with Tatra’s versatile off-road chassis.”
