DHL is increasing the footprint of its parcel network by expanding five new sites across the UK, at least doubling its handling capacity in each location.
In November a new facility opened in Eastleigh following an investment of over £7.5m. Furthermore, parcel handling operations from Fareham are being migrated over to a new building which will more than double the size of the existing depot at over 85,000 sq ft and will process up to 20,000 parcels a day.
In Sheffield, DHL has moved into a new 79,000 sq ft facility, three times the size of its existing infrastructure in the area, which will also handle up to 20,000 parcels every day.
The company has also opened a purpose-built facility in Lincoln as well as investing in sites in Norwich and Perth.
Peter Fuller, Chief Executive of DHL Parcel UK, said: “The global pandemic has driven huge uplift in e-commerce and accelerated our network upgrade plans. The new infrastructure will improve our parcel handling capabilities enabling us to support our customers’ ongoing e-commerce growth.”
