Egg producer and packer, Fridays has created significant transport savings and reduced planning time after installing RouteSmart’s WinRoute vehicle routeing and scheduling software provided by Integrated Skills Limited.
The Kent-based family-run company is one of the biggest egg producers and packers in the UK.
It originally supplied whole eggs to major multiple retailers and foodservice companies nationwide, but expanded during the 1970s to supply boiled eggs and egg products, while the late 1990s saw the launch of its chilled products division.
Fridays was keen to overhaul its transport operation in order to improve service and reduce costs and chose WinRoute for its functionality and adaptability.
Since installation, the system has enabled Fridays to greatly reduce its reliance on contractors as the software allows the planning team to “work the existing fleet harder” and plan routes more quickly and effectively, according to logistics manager Phil Day.
He says: “The WinRoute solution could handle the complex logistics here at Fridays and adapt to manage parameters including side and rear door vehicles, multi-compartment vehicles, varying pallet sizes and multi-day routes.”
ISL helped develop the system to incorporate a “dual import” interface and model the WinRoute system to meet business requirements.
The software has paid for itself in the first year and is continuing to create time and financial savings for the company.
