Logistics service provider Simon Hegele has enlisted TGW Logistics to install automated mini-load storage and retrieval systems at its new distribution centre near Frankfurt, Germany.
When completed, the 538,000 sq ft facility will be the primary location for Simon Hegele’s spare parts logistics service.
The automated mini-load operation incorporates five aisles of warehousing and a pick-up and delivery area with ten goods receiving stations, eight picking stations and four multifunctional workstations that can be used to perform value added services.
TGW’s used its own Mustang Evolution mini-load ASR machines and Twister load handling devices. The mini-load machines have rigid masts and can reach a height of 12 metres. The Twisters have been specified for double-deep handling and high speed retrieval.
The automation will be controlled via TGW’s CI_LOG warehouse management software which will organise and allocate storage locations by interfacing with Simon Hegele’s own software.
Phil Steeds, sales director at TGW, said: “It was an essential requirement for them that the handling and storage systems should be combined and TGW has the technical ability to integrate both onto one manageable platform.”
