Consumer goods supplier JML has awarded City Link a £1.5m contract to handle its B2B and B2C distribution.
City Link’s Newcastle depot is working with JML’s distribution centre at South Shields handling deliveries for the JML Retail arm of the business. This involves delivery of JML goods to retailers across the UK and Ireland, such as Asda, Homebase and Debenhams.
It is also handling deliveries for JML Direct – the business to consumer arm of the company. The majority of deliveries are handled through City Link’s Next Day service.
JML, which describes itself as” the home of great ideas”, is an employee-owned business established more than 40 years ago. It originally operated from the London area, but the past two years have seen the movement of all retail warehousing needs to Port of Tyne Authority in South Shields, where JML Direct has been operating from for the past seven years.

JML logistics manager Sara Spink said regular communication between JML and City Link, coupled with the support of City Link’s customer services team and a dedicated email address for JML customers awaiting deliveries had helped ease any anticipated pressure on the company – particularly during the transitional period.
JML products are retailed though companies such as Boots, Wilkinsons, Poundstretcher, Asda, Makro and Debenhams. JML also operates four Sky TV shopping channels and a web site. It exports to more than 70 countries.
