DFDS Logistics is implementing the Empirica WMS from Chess Logistics Technology at its high volume transhipment facility at Larkhall near Glasgow.
The site handles chilled fish and seafood products farmed in Scotland. Products are delivered from farms by road and redistributed from the site throughout the UK and abroad.
The system uses wireless RF with handheld mobile computers. It will capture electronic despatch order details from customers, removing paper from the process, increasing efficiency and giving customers visibility of their product across the supply chain.
This will enable DFDS to handle product faster on arrival, allowing transhipment direct to outgoing vehicles even when orders are received during transit of the Larkhall site.
Longer term storage is provided in racked freezer chambers which in time will also be controlled by the Empirica system.
