Work has started on Clipper Logistics 343,000 sq ftr cross docked warehouse at Teeslink on Wynyard Park, Stockton on Tees.
The site is due to open in September next year. Much of the space will be used to distributing clothing for George at Asda and Clipper will operate a multi user facility in the remaining space.
The development is a joint venture between British Airways Pension Trustees and Sladen Estates who have extensive experience of working in partnership to deliver large distribution and industrial developments.
Clipper and Asda are investing some £15m fitting out the unit to produce a state of the art garment processing hub which will include 450,000 square feet of mezzanine floor with a semi automated hanging garment system.
The 14 metre tall building will achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and a 10 per cent reduction on CO2 emissions has been achieved through design.
Clipper chose Teeslink at Wynyard Park because of the ability of the development team and owners to meet important timescales.
Clipper managing director Tony Mannix said: ‘Wynyard Park offers an excellent location for the new facility and we have been working with Sladen Estates over the last 6 months to ensure the building is designed to meet all of our needs.
The unit will initially serve the needs of one of our major client’s George at Asda, and will then be further developed to accommodate other “shared use” customers, creating much needed new employment in the area”
Agents for the landowners / developers were Moriarty and Co, Jones Lang LaSalle (Newcastle).
