London Councils and Transport for London have confirmed they will be sympathetic to out-of-hours delivery operations during the Olympics in areas affected by Games-related restrictions.
However, firms making deliveries at night are urged to adhere to Code of Practice developed by TfL, the Freight Transport Association and the Noise Abatement Society. London boroughs reserve the right to enforce against businesses that are inconsiderate, especially if complaints are received about excessive noise.
Good steps to minimise the chance of any enforcement action include following the Code of Practice and in particularly sensitive areas businesses are advised to discuss this issue with local borough councils in advance.
It is hoped that successful night time deliveries throughout the period could lead to legacy of more acceptance of night time deliveries, potentially leading to improved road safety, air quality and reduced congestion in capital.
