B&M Retail is putting four times more cargo through the Port of Liverpool in 2012 than it did last year, after signing a contract with Peel Ports Mersey to import 12,000 TEUs of cargo.
It had previously taken its cargo from South coast ports. The move will reduce road haulage costs and emissions transporting goods to its distribution centres in Liverpool and Blackpool.
B&M operates 271 stores and plans to expand. Its imports are mainly fast-moving consumer goods from the Far East.
