Deutsche Post DHL says it has boosted CO2 efficiency by two index points and offset 134,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide last year through its GoGreen carbon neutral shipping service.
“Companies that do not embrace corporate responsibility as an integral part of their business model will not be as successful in the long run,” said chief executive Frank Appel.
In its annual CSR report the group said it had now offset some 270,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions since 2006. It is targeting a 30 per cent improvement in CO2 efficiency by 2020.

The organisation is holding a Corporate Responsibility Day at it Bonn heaquarters with panels and workshops discussing the relevance, trends and challenges in the area of sustainable corporate management.
In the vehicle fleet, it said that in 2011 more than 4,000 vehicles with alternative engines and fuels, as well as aerodynamic or engine-related modifications, were deployed. This was nearly 1,000 more than in the previous year.
Last year Deutsche Post DHL transported some 1.86 billion shipments by the GoGreen service compared to 1.76bn in 2010.
