Pharmaceutical logistics specialist Movianto has opened a new European logistics centre at Oss near Nijmegen in the Netherlands, which it reckons is the largest facility for the storage of deep frozen pharmaceutical products in Europe.
The warehouse has 22,000 temperature controlled pallet spaces and includes an area with 50 deep frozen pallet locations (-40ºC) for specialty pharmaceutical products.
A dedicated area within the warehouse has a capacity for 2,220 cold pallet locations (+2 ºC / +8 ºC), as well as 350 frozen pallets (< -20 ºC) which can be used for storing blood plasma products, for example and can be extended to house a further 750 pallets, if required. 1,100 narcotics pallet spaces (+15ºC / +25 ºC) and a manufacturing room for relabeling and repackaging and postponement activities rounds off this scalable service offering.
The company said it had included all the functionalities of a central European warehouse with a dedicated cross docking area and bonded warehouse facility to offer clients integrated supply chain solutions including a multilingual call centre which provides operations in a total of six languages. Movianto’s transport solution manages freight and distributes the products to local warehouses throughout the whole of Europe.

“We are delighted that the new infrastructure is now ready, approved and licensed by the authorities. May will see the start of operations as the transfer from the former to the new warehouse is completed,” said Patrick Esselaar, managing director of Movianto Nederland and Movianto Belgium,
Last autumn, The UK Department of Health has renewed its long-term contract for childhood vaccines with Movianto UK. It stipulated that an essential part of this service was the operation of a fully validated cold chain supply chain.
