Yusen Logistics is partnering Dublin-based Moran Freight Services in providing a specialist reverse flow logistics operation for consumer electronics giant Samsung.
Samsung’s entire UK supply chain is outsourced to Yusen and the concept for the new operation has been jointly developed by the two organisations.
The new operation “ensures the product is ‘touched’, quicker, enhancing communication and the experience received by our customers. This also extends to the normal internal/external benefits expected,” said Ian Ulvmoen, Samsung’s regional logistics director for North West Europe.
“We are pushing boundaries, we constantly look for innovation and drive our 3PLs where necessary to become 4PLs, activities they probably would not look to undertake in the past. Yusen Logistics has embraced this and shares our mission statement: – Logistics, it’s not just the A to B, we cover the whole alphabet.
“For Samsung, these principles apply equally in reverse. We believe Samsung to be unique in treating reverse flows in the same way as ‘stock’, like all other product within the supply chain. Therefore the processing of returns is just as important as the processing of outbound stock. We can be quicker in the response to our customers, we can be more analytical, identify weakness, address and move on.”
Yusen has worked with Samsung since 2000, when a contract was awarded for brown goods distribution. Since then, and with additional contracts for high value products, white goods and reverse flow logistics, the volumes handled have more than quadrupled.
