The high-speed line from the Channel Tunnel could be used for unaccompanied trailers, after a successful trial.
The first train carrying 4 metre high trailers was received into Russell’s Barking International Rail Freight Terminal in east London.
The trial run by Europort Channel from Antwerp Belgium to the Barking terminal in London via HS1 has been rated a success opening the way for unaccompanied piggy back trailers to be used through the channel tunnel to London on HS1.
Russell’s Barking terminal was chosen by Europort Channel for the trial as it is one of the few rail freight terminals in the UK with direct access to HS1,
The aim is to develop a daily service, and open the way for more services of its type to allow the transport of goods between UK and Continental Europe via HS1.
