Construction of the Imeretinskiy cargo port in Sochi, Russia, which will deliver cargo for the 2014 Winter Olympics, has been completed by Transstroy, part of Russian transport and infrastructure construction company Basic Element.
Port maintenance is provided by Imeretinskaya Stevedore Company, also part of Basic Element.
The port’s capacity is 5 million tonnes of cargo per year. Its docks are up to 9.2 meters deep. Investment in the port construction amounted to £120 million (RUR 6 billion).
The Imeretinskiy cargo port is the only versatile cargo port in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea basin to be built in the post-Soviet period. In addition, it is the only port to be built through a public-private partnership in Russia.
