Kerry Logistics has bought 592,000 sq ft of land in Thailand in order to build a 377,000 sq ft logistics centre for the automotive sector.
The development is intended to capitalise on Kerry’s expectation that the value of logistics services in the automotive zone will increase by more than 25 per cent by 2015.
The facility’s service offerings will include inventory control, processing and packaging, as well as automotive pre-assembly, sub-assembly, sequencing, and JIT delivery.
Kerry Logistics will also provide quality control and inspection for vehicles on arrival, batch and sequence parts for delivery to customers’ own facilities or send directly to end-users
The facility is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2013.
The site is at the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, some 35 km from the Laemchabang Seaport.
The estate has around 500 car factories, owned by brands such as General Motors, Ford, Mazda and Suzuki.
