Planning has been granted for a 410,000 sq ft distribution space at Harrow Estates, a subsidiary of Redrow Homes, and Cheltenham-based Robert Hitchins’ Westgate Distribution Park scheme at Severnside near Bristol.
The two storage and distribution units could create up to 500 new jobs after South Gloucestershire Council granted planning permission for the development, which is roughly the size of nine football pitches.
The new units will be built on land at the rear of the new Tesco distribution unit across the M49 at Western Approach.
It is the first development to be brought forward in the recently identified Severnside Enterprise Area.
Simon Prescott of planning consultant Barton Willmore, which advised on the application, said: “This planning permission is an important step in creating new jobs for Bristol and is a statement of intent from local authorities about the potential of the new Severnside Enterprise Area.”
