The amount of space let in the North West in the first half of the year amounted to nearly all that let in the whole of 2011, according to CBRE’s ‘H1 2012 UK Logistics’ report.
A total of 3.2 million sq ft of industrial space had been taken up in the region in the first half of 2012, just under the annual total for 2011 of 3.79 million sq ft.
The report said deals completed in the region during the first half of 2012 accounted for 27 per cent of the UK total, closely followed by the South East with 26 per cent and the East Midlands with 20 per cent.
Three large acquisitions were completed in the North West in the first half of 2012. Supermarket chain Asda started construction of its 630,000 sq ft facility at Kingsway Business Park in Rochdale, B&M acquired 456,000 sq ft at The Big Rack in Knowsley and Jaguar Land Rover acquired 405,000 sq ft for a new parts warehouse in Ellesmere Port.
Nationally, 10.6 million sq ft of industrial space was acquired across the country in the first half of the year.
