Harrods has opened a 346,000 sq ft distribution centre at Thatcham near Newbury to service the Knightsbridge store, airport boutiques and expanding e-commerce operations
It will also provide the backbone for the retailer’s future growth.
Group distribution director Dawson Parker said: “The opening of Thatcham is a key part of Harrods growth strategy to prepare the supply chain for the future. Thatcham has great transport links, a rich pool of talent and the local government has provided us with the support to create a world class distribution centre.”
Advanced material handling equipment will enable the faster movement of goods with increased replenishment accuracy and frequency as well as much greater storage capacity.
Half of the centre’s 180 employees were hired locally joining the team transferred from Harrods Osterley distribution centre.
