Marie-Christine Lombard has been named chief executive officer of Geodis, the logistics business of French rail operator SNCF.
Lombard resigned as CEO of TNT Express, the UPS takeover target, unexpectedly last month.
Pierre Blayau, chairman and chief executive officer of SNCF Geodis since January 2001, has become chairman.
Jean-Louis Demeulenaere, chief executive officer of Geodis, is leaving the company to pursue new projects.
SNCF chairman Guillaume Pepy said: “Given the crisis in volumes in the goods transport I fully support the changes made by Pierre Blayau.
“The arrival of Marie-Christine Lombard at the SNCF group as chief executive officer of Geodis will strengthen the teams and ready Geodis for a new phase of profitable growth. She will place all her skills at the service of the transport and logistics division.”

Lombard joined TPG Group in 1993 – it became TNT in 2005 – and became chief executive officer of the TNT’s Express division and member of the TNT board in 2004. In May 2011, she became chairman and chief executive Officer of TNT Express NV.
She resigned from TNT last month ahead of the takeover by UPS. Antony Burgmans, chairman of the TNT supervisory board, said: “It is regrettable that Marie-Christine has decided to leave TNT Express now. We thank Marie-Christine for her contributions and wish her well for the future. This development has no bearing on the intended merger with UPS, which we expect to complete in early 2013.”
