Primark has opened a 40,000 sq m logistics centre at Mönchengladbach in Germany, operated by DHL Supply Chain, to serve stores in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Austria.
The centre has a 19,300m hanging garment racking and rail transport system, and is built to warehouse and dispatch carton-packed fashion garments. It has a total of 37,000 pallet spaces.
It will have the capability to pick and transport as many as 16 million shipments annually.
“Primark has been successful in its expansion strategy, with nearly 250 retail stores throughout Western Europe, from which 14 are directly supplied by Mönchengladbach,” said Wolfgang Krogmann, director general Primark Northern Europe.
“We chose DHL as our logistics partner because it meets all of our needs. We are looking forward to watching our business grow in this location as well.”
Primark has worked with DHL to develop logistics centres in the UK and Spain as well as Germany.
