The Christmas shopping peak is getting closer to Christmas Day, according to MetaPack, which tracks volumes with its eCommerce Tracker.
Historically week on week volumes have fallen between 30 per cent and 50 per cent in the week prior to Christmas. But this year volumes are expected to hold with Monday to Wednesday comparable to last week.
Patrick Wall, MetaPack CEO, said: “Retailers such as ASOS, Boohoo, Matalan and Monsoon were still experiencing increasing volumes at the start of this week. The majority of leading retailers will continue to take pre-Christmas orders until at least Thursday.”
The accelerated week on week increase reflects the shifting of peak towards Christmas. According to MetaPack this shift continues to be greater in the regions, with Scotland and the North East the only regions to fall back week on week. “We expect Greater London online orders to see an increase this week. Mild weather and consumer confidence will see the high volumes continue,” said Wall.
