Ruth Waring, managing director of Labyrinth Logistics Consulting, and founder of Women in Logistics, has been appointed to the board of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK.
Women in Logistics is a group of over 3,000 members including 600 men, that works to attract women into the logistics profession, influence attitudes and ensure supply chain professionals have a strong voice in the industry.
Waring started Women in Logistics in 2008 as a LinkedIn group, and within three years it had 2,000 members and was hosting educational, industry and networking events. She is running a seminar on winning business through social media at the Logistics Link South exhibition at Sandown Park on 13th February 2013.
“I am honoured to be joining the Board of the CILT to represent the interests of women in the logistics sector. I have been a member for all my professional career and I am an enthusiastic advocate of the Institute’s work. However I am delighted that the Board has recognised that more can be done in this vital area and I very much look forward to meeting the challenges ahead by working together,” said Waring.
Neil Ashworth, chairman of the CILT said: “I, alongside the entire Board, am delighted that Ruth has accepted our invitation to join CILT’s Board of Trustees as a co-opted member. Her experience and passion to make our profession an exciting choice for talented women and men exactly reflects the aims of CILT. Ruth brings not only her insights and perspectives from WiL, but also as a recognised expert in legal compliance, safety and quality management within transport operations. I look forward to Ruth’s impact on our discussions and developments.”
Waring has previously worked for Exel Logistics, Gefco UK and Pearson Education.
