John Bywater Transport has ordered an additional Iveco Eurostralis following a fuel trial involving comparable tractor units from five different truck manufacturers.
Two Iveco Ecostralis tractors have jointly averaged 9.45mpg over 71,000 miles since entering service. Managing director John Bywater said this compared favourably against his 40-strong fleet’s average of 8.25mpg.
“The Ecostralises have proven to be very economical at the pumps and are returning the best fuel consumption figures we’ve seen.
“On the back of this performance, I’ve ordered an additional Ecostralis which will join the fleet this month.”
Iveco reckons the fuel savings are down to its re-mapped version of the FPT Industrial Cursor 10 engine. The Ecostralis has Iveco’s Ecoswitch device that uses the vehicle weight information to limit engine torque, allowing fuel consumption to be minimised during acceleration without affecting overall speed capability.
It is also fitted with a EuroTronic transmission with Ecofleet mode which automatically adjusts to the loading of the vehicle to help fine-tune fuel economy.
