DHL Supply Chain has pledged to deliver a seven per cent first year cost saving as part of a new £14m transport contract with Travis Perkins the builders merchant group.
Under the three-and-a-half year contract DHL will operate from the company’s distribution centre in Northampton, transporting goods to more than 1,000 branches across the UK handling 160,000 deliveries and 20,000 loads a year.
DHL expects to reduce operating costs by improving trailer fill with the introduction of pallet collars. Collaborative initiatives such as backhauling, shared loads and procurement are also expected to deliver savings.
Travis Perkins has worked with DHL for the past 20 years. Group distribution director Lee Morris said: “We are looking forward to working in closer partnership with DHL, whose collaborative and agile supply chain solution is projected to deliver significant operational efficiencies.”
Dean Wyatt, vice president of business development retail at DHL Supply Chain said: “The new contract is testament to our customer commitment and in-depth understanding of the business’ needs. As a result, we have developed a strategy which we’re confident we will transform and streamline the company’s transport operations.”
