Asda has ordered 187 Scanias including 120 trucks for its retail distribution fleet, 55 for its primary network and 12 for its petroleum fleet.
The retail distribution trucks include 42 vehicles supplied in accordance with the Ecolution by Scania programme.
“Asda and Scania have enjoyed a long-standing relationship which has consistently delivered excellent results, both in terms of day-to-day operational performance and overall transport economy,” says John Rogerson, Asda’s fleet contracts manager.
“As a key supplier whose operations are integrated into many of our activities – including, for example, tanker support and trailer maintenance – we rely upon Scania to deliver the levels of service and quality our customers expect and demand of us.
Ecolution by Scania is designed to help operators achieve the best transport economy and operational efficiency with a programme of vehicle, driver and maintenance optimisation.
Rogerson said: “With regard to operating economy, Scania has a well-proven record with us which we are now looking to take to the next level by way of the innovative Ecolution by Scania programme – and on that, the early indications are excellent, with our 42 new Ecolution by Scania vehicles returning a significant fuel advantage compared to our existing fleet.”
The 120 retail distribution trucks are a mix of 420 horsepower 4×2 and 6×2/2 pusher-axle models with Scania G sleeper-cabs. They will be stationed at Asda Distribution centres nationwide, these will be used on store replenishment services, with each truck covering an anticipated 120,000 miles per annum.
The 55 primary network trucks are also a mix of G sleeper-cabbed 420 horsepower 4x2s and 6×2/2s. The vehicles are operated by NFT on behalf of Asda, and will each cover 200,000 miles annually running between NFT’s three UK consolidation centres and eight Asda chilled distribution centres.
