Knights of Old has taken delivery of a customised urban trailer, aiming to help reduce the risk of collisions between cyclists and drivers.
The trailer, named Metaltek-Knights of Old, was made by SDC Trailers for deliveries into urban environments and tight rural locations.
The rear of the vehicle has a sign warning cyclists of the danger spots when overtaking, which is a new feature that will now appear on the company’s entire fleet, as well as a number of new safety features, including close-proximity sensors with cameras and full safety mirrors.
“Large lorries are involved in half the cyclist fatalities in London and similar urban areas. We want all transport operators t`o follow this example and fit equipment that makes it easier for drivers to be aware of cyclists and pedestrians around them, said Charlie Lloyd, campaigns officer for London Cycling Campaign.
“Both cyclists and drivers all need better training to be aware of the hazards of sharing the same streets.”
