Deutsche Post DHL improved its carbon efficiency by two index points in 2012 – giving it a 16 per cent improvement in carbon efficiency since 2008, according to its Corporate Responsibility Report for 2012.
This means that is over half way to its target of a 30 per cent CO2 effficiency improvement by 2020 for its own operations and those of its transport subcontractors, compared to 2007.
The Group’s fleet of 80,000 road vehicles now includes 8,500 vehicles with innovative technologies and drive systems. Last year, it unveiled the “Streetscooter” – an electric vehicle developed to meet its own needs. This will be piloted this year.
In 2012 some 2.41 billion items were shipped with the group’s carbon-neutral delivery service GOGREEN enabling it to offset 180,000 tonnes of CO2.
