The Freight Transport Association has welcomed the government’s decision to continue working with the industry to improve freight’s carbon performance, as concluded by the Department for Transport’s Freight Carbon Review.
The conclusion comes after the success of FTA’s Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS), which was endorsed by the DfT in 2011, and, according to FTA, has shown that industry is capable of recording and reporting carbon emissions without the need for additional tax and regulation.
“The Freight Carbon Review clearly shows the benefits of an industry-led approach to carbon reduction which has been successfully demonstrated by the LCRS, said Rachael Dillon, FTA’s climate change policy manager.
“We welcome the Department’s decision to continue to work with industry on carbon reduction rather than introducing regulation.”
