Yusen Logistics says it has improved the method of loading metal products in ocean containers with a new environmentally friendly metal products forwarding method.
The method uses expanded polystyrene as the fixing material instead of lumber, to prevent goods from collapsing in containers.
By cutting the polystyrene into optimal sizes for the rigidity and shape of the cargo, the company says the new system improves container load efficiency and reduces transport costs.
Yusen also reckons that, while it previously took around 1.5 hours to load cargo into a container, it now only takes 15 minutes.
The technique was developed by Australian port service company, Strang Systems.
