Property developer Goodman and Shepherd Group have entered into a partnership to develop a new strategic rail freight interchange incorporating approximately five million sq ft of manufacturing and distribution space in Etwall, Derbyshire.
The partnership will work with the site’s owner, Etwall Land and, subject to planning, deliver a scheme that will give a major economic boost to the area, with the potential to provide up to 6,000 new jobs.
On completion, the rail freight interchange’s strategic location between the M1 and the M6, and being adjacent to the A50 and A38 and Toyota’s UK manufacturing plant, will enable the region’s businesses to efficiently and sustainably produce and deliver goods to the wider UK and international market.
Mark Perkins, chief executive of Shepherd Group Built Environment, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to transform sustainable transport links for the region to benefit existing businesses while also encouraging inward investment and the creation of jobs for the local community.”
Charles Crossland, managing director of Goodman UK Logistics, added: “ From an economic viewpoint, the new strategic rail freight hub will act as a stimulus to attract further investment into the area and enhance the region’s reputation as a key business location.”
A public consultation will commence immediately.
