DHL Global Forwarding has launched DHL Thermonet, a new air freight product tailored to the Life Sciences and Healthcare sector, hoping to offer customers a transparent and regulatory compliant platform to manage their temperature-sensitive shipments.
By integrating monitoring and intervention 24/7, DHL Thermonet will provide higher visibility as a standard offering within the temperature controlled shipping arena, using SmartSensor RFID technology.
“The current situation within the Life Sciences and Healthcare market, facing an increasingly regulated environment, demands a higher level of service compliance, said Angelos Orfanos, president, Life Sciences and Healthcare DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation.
“By means of DHL Thermonet, we will meet our customers’ requirements, enhance our cold chain activities and expand our market leading capabilities in Life Sciences and Healthcare, one of DHL’s key focus sectors.”
The company is currently implementing its Thermonet standard to its base of more than 30 Life Sciences competence centres around the world.
Further network expansion is planned.
*DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation has released a white paper looking at key trends of tomorrow’s Life Sciences logistics.
It said one of the main opportunities for manufacturers is to build up their own e-commerce operation.
The report also showed an increase in the differentiation of supply chains, saying that mode of transport, warehousing consolidation and depth of distribution within the sector will need to be tailored in each country.
It recommended pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers expand their distribution to tier-2 and tier-3 cities, as well as rural areas in emerging countries.
“The Life Sciences and Healthcare industry remains a key sector for DHL. We will continuously work together with our customers and partners to address the changing shape of the industry early on,” said Roger Crook, CEO DHL Global Forwarding, Freight and Executive Board Sponsor for the Life Sciences & Healthcare sector.
