C M Downton has invested in Microlise’s new in-cab telematics system, which will be rolled out across the company’s 500-strong vehicle fleet with a new tablet personal computer for each cab.
Downton hopes the system will enable drivers to communicate non-stop with its depots, as well as provide real-time data, including fuel consumption, about each vehicle.
“Having access to real-time data about our fleet means we can always look for ways to make trips more efficient; saving the business, and our customers, more money, said operations director John Downton.
“We estimate Microlise’s system will save us about five per cent in fuel and for a business with over 500 vehicles, this translates into significant savings.”
