FedEx has completed the first stage of its strategic acquisition of the businesses operated by its African service provider, Supaswift, by signing contracts to take over five of its firms.
The company is to acquire Supaswift’s firms in South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland and Zambia, which will now operate under the FedEx Express business unit, and is now in discussions to buy out businesses in Botswana and Namibia.
Once complete, the acquisition will see FedEx Express given direct access to 39 more facilities worldwide, as well as the additional 1,000 employees to its global team of 300,000.
“This is an important step in our international growth strategy and further strengthens our FedEx Express portfolio,” said chairman Fred Smith.
