SDI Group has acquired Kettering-based powered roller conveyor systems manufacturer CMECS.
The deal gives SDI with an in-house manufacturer to supply its European network, allowing it to react more quickly to fashion business customer demands and also to produce bespoke designs that are aligned to the industry’s requirements.
SDI chief Gordon Smith said: “We purchase approximately £10 million of conveyor a year. We can now source up to 50 per cent of that from CMECS, particularly for projects requiring short lead times and high quality systems.”
CMECS was formed in 2003 and has worked on projects for companies such as DHL, FedEx and has just finished a £600,000 project with SDI for fashion brand Abercrombie and Fitch, which was completed on time and to budget.
