Norbert Dentressangle plans to open a new distribution centre in Taunton, Somerset, for its specialist services operation, at the end of July.
The new facility in the Crown Industrial Estate will act as a regional hub, and handle 800 and 1,200 consignments each week.
It will serve the company’s two-man operations in the area, which handle high value, bulky and sensitive items, such as catering, vending and telecommunications equipment.
It will also offer shared network services for Norbert’s day and night distribution solutions, as well as a training centre for Specialist Services staff.
The company has invested more than £150,000 in redeveloping a 16,000 sq ft warehouse on the site.
Around 30 vehicles and trailers will operate from Taunton, including 15 18-tonne rigids that are fitted with specialist handling and restraining equipment for distributing large products.
Overall some 800-1,200 consignments per week will be handled to meet customer demand.
Around 45 drivers, warehouse operatives and administration staff will be based there and Norbert has said further jobs should be created as the business expands.
“The new specialist services site will ensure that the daily transfer of a wide range of goods across the network is more efficiently handled, said Mike Bridges,” managing director at Norbert Dentressangle Transport Services.
“Despite the current challenging economic climate, we are committed to enhancing customer services levels by delivering operational improvements and will continue to invest in our UK infrastructure to achieve this.”
